Damping greases exhibit non-melting properties, shear stability, and plastic compatibility, which can enhance the “silky smooth” feel of moving parts. General-purpose damping greases are primarily used in the optical instrumentation and home appliance industries; wide-temperature damping greases offer excellent viscosity–temperature characteristics and are commonly employed in the automotive industry and chemical process control, with a temperature range spanning from –40°C to 250°C.
Damping grease is used in mechanical and electronic instruments that require controlled, free motion to achieve a high-quality tactile feel, reduce noise, and enable fine adjustments. When resistance grease is applied between moving parts, direct contact is effectively prevented; upon the application of an external force, the damping grease converts shear stress into internal friction within the grease, thereby generating damping and reducing noise or friction. Once the applied force is removed, the likelihood of the components moving spontaneously is minimal. Moreover, due to its viscous nature, damping grease helps protect instruments from moisture, dust, and other contaminants.
